Just one week after hearing about the Veggielution project, Jessie was booking her flight out to California from her home state of North Carolina to help build the VeggieYouth highschool program. She received her BA in Environmental Studies with a focus in Ecology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009. While in school, she volunteered at the university’s community garden, worked at the rock climbing wall on campus, and was a founding member of the nation’s first Environmental Honors fraternity, Epsilon Eta. She has a background in environmental education, facilitating nature hikes for school groups at the Green River Preserve in the Appalachian Mountains. At the farm, her favorite chores include acting as Mother Hen to our flock of chickens, breaking up compost with the machete, and of course, “Wacky Wormbin Wednesdays”. Oddly enough, after assuming the care of our lovely worm bins she discovered that she comes from a long line of worm-farmers in her family which includes her mother, uncle, and sister-in-law. They are all very proud of her. jessien@veggielution.org
